TÜBİTAK 4004, 16th As part of the Nature Education and Science Schools Program, the “The Polar Regions: Our World’s Black Box, Illuminated by Science” was successfully completed on October 9–13, 2022.

In the project, which received nearly 300 applications from 49 different provinces, teachers from 28 different high school subjects in 20 different provinces had the opportunity to learn about the polar regions firsthand. Through documentaries, presentations, workshops, awareness-raising activities, and many other events, the instructors shared fascinating information about the polar regions with the participants.

The project also included an art contest for middle school students, and the winners received their awards. The first-place drawing was presented by Project Director Dr. Gamze Tuti to Prof. Dr. Burcu Özsoy, Director of the TÜBİTAK MAM Polar Research Institute, and was displayed at the Institute.

On the final day of the project—in which scientists who had traveled to the poles as part of our National Polar Science Expeditions, which have been conducted since 2017, served as instructors—the participants also visited the TÜBİTAK MAM Institute of Polar Research and the Polar Science House.
