In order to increase scientific research in the polar regions and strengthen international cooperation, TÜBİTAK Polar Research Institute (KARE) and Japan’s National Institute of Polar Research (NIPR) have continued their joint efforts under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in 2021.
The 17th Symposium on Polar Science, organized by NiPR, will be held in Tokyo, Japan, from December 1–4, 2026.
The symposium will bring together researchers from diverse disciplines in the field of polar science, with the aim of facilitating the exchange of recent scientific findings and interdisciplinary research focused on the polar regions.
Sessions will cover a wide range of topics, including Arctic research, polar data science, polar biology, polar geosciences, polar meteorology and glaciology, space and upper-atmosphere sciences, and Antarctic meteorites.
Oral presentations may be delivered either online or in person, while poster presentations will be conducted exclusively in person. The official language of the symposium is English.

The participation of researchers working in the field of polar science, as well as relevant academic communities at universities in Türkiye, will contribute to the advancement of polar research and further strengthen scientific cooperation between the two countries.
