Dear Researcher,
Polar research is one of the areas to which our country has attached particular importance, especially in recent years. The National Polar Science Program (UKBP), published in 2017, established the bureaucratic, financial, scientific, and technical infrastructure for research to be conducted in the polar regions (Antarctica, the Arctic, and oceanic areas). The UKBP’s vision is defined as “to rank among the leading countries in the world through original scientific research in polar sciences.” Consequently, 66 projects focused on the polar regions have been funded in recent years, and six National Antarctic Science Expeditions (TAE) and two National Arctic Science Expeditions (TASE) have been successfully completed. Within the scope of these expeditions, research has been conducted on various topics in the fields of Earth Sciences, Social and Humanities, Life Sciences, and Physical Sciences.
This special issue aims both to bring together Earth Sciences research conducted in the Polar Regions and to pay tribute to Atok Karaali, the first known Turkish scientist to set foot in Antarctica.
We have conducted research in the Polar Regions and are pleased to invite the entire global geosciences community to contribute to this special issue.

- Please submit the title, list of authors, and an abstract summarizing the scope of your proposed article (no more than 2 pages) to the lead guest editor, Dr. Burcu Özsoy, by November 15, 2022 (kare@tubitak.gov.tr) you can send it.
- The proposed deadline for submitting the article is March 31, 2023.
