Organized under the leadership of the Trabzon Provincial Directorate of National Education, the TÜBİTAK 4007 DISASTER-AFFECTED REGION “SCIENCE IS EVERYWHERE” Special Support Call, experts from our Institute of Polar Research brought the polar regions to Antakya, Hatay.

Deeply saddened by the disaster that occurred during the 7th National Antarctic Science Expedition, the scientific team rushed to the disaster zone to help the children affected by the earthquake as soon as the expedition ended. The Polar Experts participating in the project, supported by TÜBİTAK, conducted a variety of workshops to broaden the children’s perspective on science, share in their grief, and help them grow through the light of science. In addition to learning about a wide variety of topics—from polar bears to penguins—the children, including the younger ones, had fun coloring pictures of Arctic animals. The designs of the materials used in the Arctic workshops and the workshops themselves were developed by experts from our institute.

The project, which took place in Antakya, Hatay, during the last week of April, was successfully completed thanks to the dedication of every participant.
