Our country has been organizing regular National Antarctic Science Expeditions to the Antarctic Continent since 2017. As part of the TÜBİTAK MAM Institute of Polar Research’s goals to raise awareness about the polar regions, a nationwide drawing contest themed “Science in the Poles in the 100th Year of Our Republic” is being organized, with an awards ceremony planned for Antarctic Day.
The Antarctic Continent, located at our South Pole—kilometers away from our country, home to the world’s coldest and most extreme conditions, inhospitable to human life, and home to massive glaciers that hold more than half of our planet’s fresh water—while when we look in the exact opposite direction—that is, toward the North Pole—we see the Arctic Region, home to the world’s coldest ocean, inhabited by indigenous peoples, and currently one of the areas most severely affected by climate change. The aim of this competition is for our young people to depict their thoughts on both polar regions through visual arts, drawing on their inspiration and sense of curiosity, and to use these works to raise widespread awareness of polar sciences in our country. In this way, the goal is to foster a generation that, from a young age, creates works that blend art and science by imagining the work of our scientists conducting research in the most remote corners of the world—as well as the nature, environment, and wildlife there—and who will go on to pursue their scientific curiosity in the future.
- The winners of the contest will receive surprise gifts.
- The competition is held in three separate categories: elementary school, middle school, and high school.
- Participation in the contest is free, and each person may submit only one entry. If it is determined that a person has submitted more than one entry, only the most recent entry will be considered.
- Entries submitted to the competition must be on the themes of Polar Sciences, the Poles, the Arctic, and Antarctica. Entries on other themes will not be considered.
- The information provided in the application form must be reviewed in detail and filled out correctly according to the required information.

- You must read the contest rules before submitting your entry. Entries that do not comply with the conditions outlined in the contest rules will not be considered.
- During the first evaluation phase of the competition, entries will not be sent by mail; instead, photographs of the entries will be taken and uploaded via the application link. As a result of the first evaluation phase, the selection committee will determine which entries advance to the finals. After the works advancing to the finals are announced according to the competition schedule, the original works must be delivered to the address specified in the competition rules by the date indicated in the schedule. Works that are not received will be disqualified from the competition. The original works that advance to the finals will undergo a final evaluation by the selection committee on the dates specified in the competition schedule. The works deemed worthy of an award as a result of the final evaluation will be announced on November 30–December 1.
