The Fifth National Arctic Scientific Research Expedition (TASE-V) will take place from July 8 to 31, 2025.

Our country continues to strengthen its scientific presence in polar research. The Fifth National Arctic Scientific Research Expedition (TASE-V) is being carried out from July 8 to 31, 2025, under the patronage of the Presidency, administered by the Ministry of Industry and Technology, and coordinated by the TÜBİTAK MAM Institute of Polar Research.

A total of 12 researchers—9 Turkish and 3 foreign—are participating in the TASE-V expedition.  During the expedition, 19 different scientific projects will be carried out, and three high school students—whose projects won first place in TÜBİTAK’s project competitions—will have the opportunity to test their projects in the Arctic.

During the expedition, seawater and sediment samples will be collected, the presence of microplastics in surface waters will be investigated, and Arctic atmospheric dynamics will be monitored using GNSS and meteorological stations. Researchers from Argentina, Bulgaria, and Ecuador will also participate in the expedition.

Through research on the effects of climate change in the Arctic Ocean and on marine ecosystems, Turkey’s scientific strength will once again be recognized on the international stage.
