As part of the National Antarctic Science Expeditions, launched in 2017 under the auspices of the Presidency, scientists from our country are carrying out successful research in the polar regions through more than ten projects conducted each year.

Under the terms of a protocol signed with the General Directorate of Meteorology in 2019, Turkey’s first meteorological station to be established in Antarctica was transported to the continent as part of a major logistical operation. Data from our meteorological station, which was established and activated during the Third National Antarctic Science Expedition, was recorded in the station’s internal memory for one year. During the Fourth National Antarctic Science Expedition in 2020, the station was upgraded to transmit data via satellite. The data transmitted to the satellite was recorded and processed by the General Directorate of Meteorology, on the online platform is being shared.

Turkish scientists can obtain detailed weather information from our meteorological station both before and during their expeditions.

In addition, our Institute contributed a chapter to the book titled “Turkey’s Meteorological Policies and Strategies from the Past to the Present,” which was published in recent months.
