Our country’s research on the polar regions came under the patronage of the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey in 2017 and has gained momentum since then. Beginning with the First National Antarctic Science Expedition organized in 2017, the National Polar Science Expeditions have continued with a total of five expeditions—four to Antarctica and one to the Arctic—in the years that followed.
Prior to the National Polar Science Expeditions, coordination, information, and training sessions are organized for all expedition participants. During these training sessions, participants gain experience with the environments they will encounter during the expedition by using the relevant infrastructure and equipment. In line with these objectives, the National Polar Science Expeditions Training Manual has been prepared by the experts listed below to document the scope and details of the training provided and to share this body of knowledge.
The National Polar Science Expeditions Training Manual contains information that can be applied not only specifically to the Polar Regions but also in everyday life and during emergencies. Prepared to ensure the highest level of safety and security for participants in upcoming polar expeditions, this handbook is intended to contribute to our country’s research activities in the Polar Regions.
