TÜBİTAK KARE and the Cemre Foundation have signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on environmental sustainability and climate change; Under this partnership, fieldwork in polar regions and environmental research will be supported, and projects focused on the circular economy and environmental awareness will be implemented in collaboration with young researchers and universities.

A new partnership has been established to support Turkey’s efforts in the fields of polar research and environmental sustainability. A cooperation protocol aimed at achieving environmental sustainability goals was signed between the TÜBİTAK Institute of Polar Research (KARE) and the Cemre Foundation.

The protocol was signed by Prof. Dr. Burcu Özsoy, President of TÜBİTAK MAM and Director of TÜBİTAK KARE, and Furkan Gökgöz, President of the Cemre Foundation, at a ceremony held at the TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center (MAM).

The Cemre Foundation aims to strengthen the link between awareness and responsibility in its efforts to address environmental issues, disasters, and social vulnerabilities. The Foundation conducts educational, research, and project activities to raise awareness about environmental and disaster-related issues, increase the sharing of knowledge and experience, and contribute to the widespread adoption of best practices.

Under the signed protocol, there are plans to implement joint projects in the polar regions—which are among the areas most affected by global climate change—and in other fields related to climate change. TÜBİTAK KARE, which coordinates Turkey’s polar research efforts, and the Cemre Foundation aim to develop social responsibility projects focused on polar regions, global climate change, and natural disasters. The goal is to promote climate and environmental awareness in sensitive ecosystems where human impact is minimal.

The collaboration will not be limited to field activities alone. The agreement also provides for support for scientific and academic research on environmental themes. Through support provided for projects carried out by universities, research centers, and young researchers, the plan is to encourage innovative work in the fields of environmental sustainability and the circular economy.

The collaboration between TÜBİTAK KARE and the Cemre Foundation is expected to contribute to strengthening Turkey’s scientific capacity in the field of the environment and increasing its visibility in international environmental policies. The protocol is considered an important step toward raising awareness about combating climate change and developing sustainable solutions.
