Who We Are
As TÜBİTAK Polar Research Institute (KARE), we conduct interdisciplinary studies to contribute to Türkiye's strategic goals in polar research. Our R&D projects support the production of scientific knowledge through national expeditions, base management and logistics planning. By continuously improving our capacity through national and international collaborations, we adopt raising awareness of the polar regions and strengthening Türkiye's scientific power as our main mission.

Our research in the fields of Polar Science Strategy and Education and Polar Expedition Logistics and Law aims to develop solutions for the planning of scientific expeditions, environmental and legal assessments, and the protection of polar regions. Our work strengthens Türkiye's polar science capacity and supports international cooperation.

As the Polar Research Institute, we conduct interdisciplinary projects in the fields of ecosystems, biotechnology and geophysics in the polar regions. Our research covers monitoring of Antarctic ecosystems, microorganism diversity, biotechnological potential and science-policy interaction. We contribute to the development of polar sciences by deepening our knowledge through national and international collaborations.

TÜBİTAK Polar Research Institute (KARE) operates to coordinate, support and develop scientific research in the polar regions. The Institute conducts multidisciplinary polar research in the Arctic and Antarctic regions, especially in natural sciences, environmental sciences, earth sciences, climate change, biology and engineering applications, and contributes to the development of national polar science policies.
TÜBİTAK Polar Research Institute (KARE) operates at TÜBİTAK Gebze Campus in Gebze, Kocaeli, Türkiye. As a Türkiye-based organization, the Institute carries out its activities on a national and international scale and carries out field studies in the Arctic and Antarctic regions in cooperation with research infrastructures and universities in Türkiye.
TÜBİTAK Polar Research Institute (KARE) was established in 2019 within TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center (MAM). Polar studies continue by strengthening its institutional structure under TÜBİTAK KARE as of 2025.
The conditions required for the personnel to be employed in TÜBİTAK KARE vary according to the position, job description and project scope. In general, education and experience in the relevant field, scientific work competence and foreign language skills are among the main criteria sought. Current application requirements are announced on the basis of the announcement.

Applications for full-time positions are submitted via TÜBİTAK’s Job Application System at kariyer.tubitak.gov.tr.
Internship applications are centrally managed by the Presidency's Human Resources Office and are conducted through the National Internship Programme at kariyerkapisi.cbiko.gov.tr.
TÜBİTAK KARE takes part in projects carried out within the scope of international polar research programs and scientific collaborations; scientific knowledge, methods and technologies developed are shared with international stakeholders. The Institute aims to contribute to polar science on a global scale.
