To increase scientific research in the polar regions and foster international cooperation, the TÜBİTAK Institute of Polar Research (KARE) and the National Institute of Polar Research (National Institute of Polar Research – NiPR) have been continuing their joint efforts under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that has been in effect since 2021.
The 17th Symposium on Polar Science, organized by NiPR, will be held in Tokyo, Japan, from December 1–4, 2026.
The symposium, which will bring together researchers from various disciplines in the field of polar sciences, aims to facilitate the sharing of current scientific studies and interdisciplinary research on the polar regions.
As part of the symposium, sessions will be held on a variety of topics, including Arctic research, polar data science, polar biology, polar geosciences, polar meteorology and glaciology, space and upper atmosphere sciences, and Antarctic meteorites.
Participants will be able to attend oral presentations either online or in person, while poster presentations will be held in person only. The official language of the symposium is English.

Abstract submission and registration begin: August 1, 2026
Deadline for abstract submission: September 4, 2026
Symposium: December 1–4, 2026
The participation of researchers working in the field of polar sciences and the relevant academic communities at our universities in the symposium will contribute to the advancement of polar research between the two countries.
